Weight Loss Motivation

Monday, December 31st, 2007

By Mason Grae Weight loss motivationhow many times have you been highly motivated to lose weight? Like many, many people, probably a good number of times. Why then, do our weight loss efforts seem to always end with the same results? We seem to end up tired and hungry with minimal weight loss, even with exercise. Then, we end up poorly motivated, or worse yet, we’re left with no weight loss motivation left at all. The answer is two words - positive feedback. With it you can be unstoppable in your weight loss efforts. Without positive feedback it probably is only a matter of time before you are sapped of any motivation that you had started out with. And positive feedback means that you’re getting results, good results. You’re losing weight, feeling good and sticking to your plan. So, why do we fail? One word, hereDIET! Dieting for many people means deprivation, hunger and fatigue. Keeping motivated for your exercise routines while fighting those three things after a day of work makes exercising a little tougher. This is where weight loss motivation begins to fail. Soon you lose interest (motivation!) in exercising. You see the weight loss slowing, or even stopping, even though you are still “dieting” and still depriving your body of food. And then you figure, “Forget itit’s not doing anything. I’ll get back on this stuff later.” And that’s it. Another round of weight loss motivation crushed and another weight loss attempt failed. Cheer up! It’s very common and you’re not alone! So, how do you fix this? Well, you already know your dieting and exercise always seemed to fail after a while. So this time, change your eating habits first. Learn how to put you body into Fat Burning Mode and not Fat Storage Mode. You can do this just by changing what you eat, when you eat and how you combine foods in your meals. It works fast and it works well. It’s not dieting, eitherit’s just changing what you eat and how you combine the foods that you eat. Once you’re in Fat Burning mode you’ll start seeing significant changes and the positive feedback loop will be set and you are on your way: You will start losing weight, just like before. This is the early positive feedback that keeps you going. But at this early stage, it’s just like every other weight loss attempt you’ve tried.Soon, however, you lose more weight. You’ve now gone past that five or six pounds, so you start realizing that something is different. This re-enforces your changing eating habits. You now know that you’re on to something good.People start noticing your weight loss. More positive feedback and more weight loss motivation. You get much more out of exercising now and you are not tired all of the time. You actually have more energy. This is almost all related to your new eating habits. As time goes by, you are losing more weight. You fit into clothes sizes that you wore years ago. More positive feedback supporting your weight loss motivation. You’re now even more motivated to stick to your new eating habits and learn more and more how this affects weight gain and weight loss. You now start losing fat in areas of your body that you previously gave up on long agomainly that Tummy Fat and lower body fat. You start seeing muscles that you haven’t seen for many years. Again, this all re-enforces your motivation to keep exercising and learning about proper nutrition and eating habits. And still, you are not always hungry, tired and cranky! Positive feedback re-enforcing your weight loss motivation. It’s at this point that you realize things are a lot different this time. You’ve lost more weight than you ever have. You have lost that tummy fat and you feel great. Best of all, you don’t feel like you’re dieting and your weight loss motivation is just as high as it was when you first started, if not higher. Positive feedback leads to more, sustained weight loss motivation which leads to more sustained weight loss! It all starts with proper nutrition and eating habitsperiod. So for long term weight loss, you need to change your eating habits first and try to get your body into Fat Burning Mode. Learn as much as you can about proper nutrition and how what you eat affects your blood sugar and insulin levels. Learn about the glycemic index and glycemic loadingall relating to blood sugar and insulin. This will allow you to lose a lot of weight, keep your weight loss motivation intact and in the end, improve your overall health and well-being tremendously. Start learning about proper nutrition and proper eating habits now. Win the war on weight gain, obesity and body fat, especially that stubborn tummy fat. Put your body into Fat Burning Mode! For a great source on how to do this, see: Burn Fat Better! http://www.BurnFatBetter.com/ Mason Grae is a big believer in properly changing eating habits to promote weight loss, improved blood sugar control, lower blood pressure and improved overall health. Education is key, so that the “fad diet” effect, which many times ends in failure, can be avoided. Questions About Laser Hair Removal

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By Kelly Jensen This article answers a few of the most common questions about laser hair removal, including who it is suitable for, how much it will cost, which areas of the body it is most suitable for, and how permanent the results are. Who is laser hair removal suitable for? It is not suitable for everyone. The general rule is that the hair in question must be a darker color than the skin surrounding it. If the skin is a very dark pigmentation, it you may absorb too much of the laser energy, and so the treatment is not advisable. Those who are tanned with light hair are also unsuitable. Those who are tanned with dark hair should not have the treatment until their tan has faded. Generally speaking, it is easier to perform the treatment on someone with light hair, as opposed to someone with dark hair. How much does it cost? The average session costs in the region of $500. Four or more sessions are usually recommended. Large areas (such as the back) will obviously result in a larger bill, and smaller areas (such as the upper lip) won’t cost as much. Private consultations are recommended to assess the cost, as the number of sessions needed varies from person to person. What areas of the body can hair be removed from using laser hair treatment? Anywhere where there is excess hair. The only real exception is around the eyes. The most common areas are legs, back, bikini line and underarms. Is it permanent? Unlike shaving and waxing, laser hair removal is considered to be a more permanent form of hair removal, but the results differ according to the patient in question. As with all beauty treatments, do not choose the practice which offers the lowest price, as the treatment may not be of the best quality. Brainteasers: Or, How Many Crazy Interview Questions Does It Take to Get Hired?

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

By Donna Monday You’ve looked at all the job interview tips and techniques. Did your homework and studied all the potential employer interview questions you may be asked. Plus, you’ve practiced your answers in front of the mirror and in a mock interview. Yep, you’re a well-prepared candidate ready to show your stuff. What more does an interviewer seeking a great candidate want? Well, for starters, they may want to know: ** How many quarters - placed on top of each other - would it take to reach the top of the Empire State Building? ** How many piano tuners are there in the world? ** What does all the ice in a hockey rink weigh? ** How many gas stations are there in the US? ** Why are manhole covers round instead of square? ** If you had to get rid of one state, what would it be? ** How do they make M&Ms? Before you sit there scratching your head and wondering if you’ve entered the interviewing Twilight Zone, realize that it’s becoming more and more common for interviewers to ask these kinds of brainteaser questions. Why in the world are they using brainteasers in interviews? Because they’re looking to get a feel for how you process information - how well you work through a problem. The first thing you should do with a brainteaser question is NOT focus on coming up with the right answer. There may not be a right answer. Instead, in your mind, divide the problem up into sections (Well, first I would . . .) and then brainstorm a logical solution out loud. Employers want to see that you’re smart and can reason through real-world business problems and come up with solutions. You might want to practice some brainteaser questions before the interview so you’ll be prepared if one comes up. You can even do this while enjoying a snack. Before you pop that handful of M&Ms into your mouth, ask yourself: “How would I make these round candy treats with chocolate on the inside and a coating on the outside?” Hmmm. How would you? Better Food

Friday, December 28th, 2007

By Georgette Pauls Are you starving? Before you say “No”, think and read on. Do you ever wonder WHY you have food cravings and overeat? We all love to eat. But how much of what we eat is really worth eating? How much is being over weight compromising your health? Fat kills. So does poor nutrition. Country kids used to eat constantly, but few were fat. The wild plums might be ready to eat, requiring a trip down the gravel road to where they grew. Everyone would gather and eat straight from the tree. Finally they would fill a bucket to take back to the kitchen. When blackberries came in they would pick them and get covered with chigger bites in the process. Eggs had to be gathered. Chickens were plucked before church on Sunday and fried after, often in lard. The garden had to be picked, and, yes everyone had a garden. You see the difference? Everyone worked really hard for the bounty of food. But the difference was that it was so fresh that few modern people have ever experienced the goodness. You wont find a truly good SC peach or GA pecan in most grocery stores. A good peach is too soft and sweet to be shipped. The ones you get from the grocery are a hard, truck-ripened variety that ships better, NOT the real thing. A lot of GA pecans are eaten right in GA, leaving the rest of us without their exquisite flavor. Any chicken that has yellow tinted skin IS NOT FRESH. The flavor will be off. Corn gathered from the garden twenty minutes before its served is very different from what the grocer has. Do you like fish? Maybe you would if it was fresh. Farmed fish is a poor compromise. Its very likely that Mad Cow Disease is caused by animal based feed. Cows are supposed to eat grass. Some accountant thought it was a good idea to feed cows, COWS (!?). Dumb idea for the sake of profit. Additionally theyre fed hormones for bigger, fatter cows. The hormones make us, you and I, fatter, too. Ever wonder why some young boys have breasts? Look to those hormones. Then there are the antibiotics. They cause more problems than they prevent. No organic farmer would do any of it. The kicker is that much of the food we consume is not only old and flavorless, it also lacks nutrients. Organic farmers in my area tell me that just six hours after a fruit or vegetable is picked 50% of the vitamins and dietary enzymes ARE GONE! If a food has been irradiated to kill germs, ALL vitamins and enzymes are gone. It will fill your belly, but thats the only benefit youll get from it. Why bother? Each incident of travel, canning, freezing and cooking reduces nutrients in food. Even minerals leach out in cooking and canning. No wonder we have uncontrollable cravings! We really ARE STARVING! So how do you insure that you and your family gets good nutrition from food they eat? There are three effective strategies for good nutrition. 1. Grow some of your own food. A few herbs make an easy starting point and require little room and no fertilizer. They can grow on a sunny windowsill. Some, like chives can grow for years with an occasional period of dormancy. Other annuals like basil, need to be planted every few months to insure a dependable supply. These plants add both nutrients and incredible flavor to our diets. 2. Contact your local agricultural county extension office to find local organic farmers. Some will let you do your own picking. Its good exercise and a fun family activity. Each season of the year, even winter has special treats and flavors. Lettuce is a cool weather crop. Asparagus spears peek out in the spring. Tomatoes like summer heat. Root vegetables sweeten after frost. 3. Garden a little. Its good exercise, but the big payoff is the food. Start small and expand your interest and knowledge. The health benefits of better nutrition are incalculable. If you are not starving for nutrients, you will feel more satisfied with less food if it has good nutrition. Losing weight, alone, could give you a better quality of life and reduce your need for expensive medications. But the best part is great food! Georgette Pauls is not only a food nut but a nutrition nut too. She puts these two passions together to show how slight changes in diet and food preparation can make you feel better and loose weight. This is not some fad diet. Marketing - Fun and Toys

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

By Robin J. Elliott I was approached by a man who had unsuccessfully been trying to sell his franchises for four years. We looked at what the market really, really wanted and then doubled the price of the franchise and added a free trip for two to Disneyworld. I sold all the franchises in four months. When we added a free television set for anyone who bought a house from us, my wife, Rika, and I sold more houses. Why do they have conventions in Las Vegas instead of some unknown, small town? Because people want to play. They want an excuse to buy toys and have fun. Instead of thinking about what YOU want all the time, think about what your prospects want. Instead of hidden costs, try obvious perks. Trips, toys and trinkets are proven to work, especially when theres a choice. People dont want points or money or discounts as much as they want toys. A man wants to buy a PDA. His wife says he should rather pay down some debt or buy a new refrigerator. He is then offered the opportunity to attend one of two seminars one is for $800 and the other one costs $1500 but includes a free PDA. Guess which seminar he will attend. Some people need to justify toys and fun and when you give them the opportunity to do so, theyll grab it. Try adding a digital camera to your product or service and increase the cost of the product or service by the price of the camera, and see what happens. Give your customers an excuse to have fun. Belinda, I know sales are down and I need to clean the garage out, but you know I have to attend that sales convention in Vegas and the river rafting team building will really help our sales. Bob, I know the kids are sick and youre busy, but youre just going to have to play Mom for a week while I take my sales team down to Hawaii for our convention. I need to train them up to increase sales and the spa treatments will help us bond. Free gifts also work really well. My friend buys a Mercedes from the same dealership every time because they always send his wife a huge bunch of yellow roses. Get creative and think about giving people a great excuse to buy from you. About Robin J. Elliott For more than 19 years, Robin J. The Impact of New Energy Psychology

Tuesday, December 25th, 2007

By Malcom Campbell Energy therapies and energy psychologies are blowing the doors off conventional therapies and attracting more and more attention from both the media and the public. Look for things to get rough and tough as MDs, PhDs and highly specialized practitioners attempt to preserve their turf. The healing arts are being shaken from physical therapy to psychotherapy and the shocks are causing a restructuring of healing methods and products. In the last couple of hundred years theres never been a tougher time to be a doctor or a psychiatrist, and it wont get easier any time soon. Whats happening? First and easiest to notice is that the law and controlling professional bodies are creating more peril and paperwork for health practitioners every year. By adding thousands of new laws and professional requirements every year (from every state and federal legislators), regulators and legislators impose increasingly heavy legal burdens on the practice of healing. Litigation drives the cost of practice through the roof when insurance costs (including the cost of specialists in most practices to handle insurance claims) are based on the probability of malpractice suits. The two parts to that cost are a public who feel less and less personally important to their caregivers, and more and more just cases, without individual worth and identity. Theres a huge and widening lack of trust in medical systems that are managed by accounting principles rather than by medical ones. The second part of the peril and paperwork problem is the increasing willingness of people to sue their caregivers. Lots of reasons are blamed for this and probably there are many real ones, but without assessing the why of it, its still very clear that most medical doctors and many other types of therapists have to assume they will be sued by a patient at some time in their practice. The worst part of that for the professional is not just the skyrocketing costs of insurance, but that cases are almost always won on the basis of the quality of the attorney rather than the quality of care in question. Thats very hard on a professional who is trying to stand on the moral high ground in his or her practice, and its a big part of why many MDs are choosing to just give up and seek other careers. (Yes, this is happening.) All that is just part of the back story. The story here is energy therapies, or energy psychology, or alternative therapies, where change is occurring with breathtaking speed. Most readily credible are those therapies that are based — at least somewhat — on Chinese medicine and acupuncture, which claims a history of at least 2,000 (some say 8,000) years. And there are quite a few of those. Lines get a little blurred, even here, because some of these energy therapies are attuned to physical issues while others are more directed to emotional or psychological issues, and some work with both. Moreover, the escalating popularity of them is partially related to speed; they all work faster than conventional psychotherapy, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and its two or three offshoots. So what are we talking about here, medicine or psychotherapy? Well, both, but not so finely distinguished as we are accustomed to. From early in the last century, medicine has recognized that some diseases are caused by the mind (they are referred to as psychosomatic) and it has been increasingly accepted that many physical conditions could be helped by mental therapies, or by energy medicines (acupuncture, chiropractic, osteopathy, homeopathy and others). Energy therapies and energy psychologies push the envelope even further by succeeding in healing some physical conditions by addressing the underlying emotional issues. The idea is that all (or certainly most) physical dysfunction rests on an emotional structure, and that if the emotional structure is taken down (released, resolved, collapsed) then the related physical issues will just go away. Of course, they are not one hundred percent successful, but neither is conventional medicine. And cost is a huge factor, considering that end of life healthcare (is that a misnomer?) exhausts most peoples financial resources. Its a bit messy to work your way through all the details, and weve only touched the surface here. Nonetheless, many people are doing it and their numbers are increasing. One interesting model is Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) developed by Stanford Engineer Gary Craig. His website, http://emofree.com is among the most popular alternative healthcare sites on the Internet; its full of endorsements and success stories from around the world. His advisory board includes more thatn a dozen physiciansand PhDs, some very well known. He is clearly creating a bridge between energy practices and conventional medical practice. Maybe its the beginning of a trend; maybe hes being instrumental in creating a direction for this big change in healthcare. One things certain: the practices of healthcare are changing and they will never again be what they were. Malcolm Campbell has been an alternative therapist and teacher for more than twenty years. He is a Master Practitioner and Trainer of NeuroLinguistic Programming, an ordained minister, and is trained in several other energy therapies. He is the developer of Yoga of the Mind (http://www.yogaofthemind.net) and is a past Director of Counseling for the Stress Management Center of Marin (California). Be a Christian Maverick

Monday, December 24th, 2007

By Alan D Campbell His name was Samuel Augustus Maverick. He was born in Pendleton, South Carolina, on July 23, 1803. He was educated at home until he was 18 years old. He went to college at Yale and received his degree in 1825. He later studied law and obtained law licenses in Virginia and Texas. He practiced law and was active in politics. He lived in several states before moving to Texas and settling in San Antonio. He fled to Gonzales based on rumors of an impending Mexican invasion of San Antonio. When Samuel Maverick returned to San Antonio, he left a small herd of cattle with caretakers on the Matagorda Peninsula. His herd was unbranded and allowed to wander. The term maverick came to mean an unbranded cow. Over time, the term maverick took on the additional meaning of an unbranded individual–someone whose style or activities are very different from those of the average person. The purpose of this article is to encourage you to be a Christian maverick unbranded by this world as we wait for the Kingdom of God. Do Not Be Spotted with the Sins of the World We are not to be branded as belonging to this world and its god Satan the Devil. Our religion must be pure. Here is how James defines pure religion n James 1:27: “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” (KJV) A part of keeping our religion pure is to visit orphans and widows and help them. Today, we will focus on the other aspect of pure religion–keeping ourselves unspotted from the world. The word unspotted means irreproachable. The book of James illustrates how we must have works to demonstrate our faith. These works include not only exerting effort to perform acts of mercy, but they also include working on ourselves with the help of Gods Holy Spirit to build righteous character. To keep ourselves unspotted from the world, we must forsake its lusts that offer temporary pleasure but that leave behind the scars of its brand. The apostle John also gave instructions on not loving the world. Here is what he wrote in I John 2:15-17:. “15Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” (KJV) The word love here is agapao, which, with respect to things, means to be well pleased or to be contented with things. If anyone is so contented with things and wrapped up in them, he does not have the agape love that comes from God. We are to love the people in the world with compassion even as God so loved the world that he gave us his begotten son Jesus Christ so that those who believe in him may have eternal life (John 3:16). We are to love our neighbors as ourselves. The story of the good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37) shows that anyone in need with whom we come in contact is our neighbor. While we are to love our neighbors, we are to avoid lusting for the things in the world. The word lust means a desire for something that is forbidden. The Lust of the Flesh The lust of the flesh includes a longing for things we could do with our bodies, but which God forbids. Therefore, lust includes all forms of illicit sexual activity, gluttony, and drunkenness. Pleasing our physical bodies is not wrong if we do so in accordance with the law of God. However, living to eat or becoming drunk is wrong. The food or drink we consume is usually not a problem, but food or drink can become a problem if it consumes us. Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. We are not our own. We should glorify God in our bodies (I Corinthians 6:19). The Lust of the Eyes The lust of the eyes is the means through which beauty and riches can inflame us with unlawful passions that war against the lead of the Holy Spirit. Our physical eyes can covet people or things that are not lawful for us to have and our minds eyes begin to imagine that we already have them and the pleasure they would bring us. The lust of the eyes causes us to focus on the pleasures of sin for a season while ignoring the pain of its brand. Having money and material possessions is not wrong as long as money and material possessions do not have us. Abraham is the father of the faithful, and he was a very wealthy man. Abraham kept the law of God. Abraham proved his willingness to obey God fully when he offered up Isaac as a sacrifice. Job was also a very wealthy man, but God allowed Satan to take away his wealth, his health, and his family. After Job repented and prayed for his friends, God gave him twice as much as he had before (Job 42:10). The apostle John in III John 2 wrote to Gaius that he wished that above all things that he prosper and be in health just as his soul prospered. John is not contradicting what he wrote in I John 2. Prospering financially in the same measure as our soul prospers is good. However, we cannot serve two mastersGod and materialism (Matthew 6:24). We must seek first the Kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33). What we own is not as important as who owns us for we were bought with a great pricethe precious blood of the Lamb. The size of the house in which we live is not as important as who lives in us–for it is Christ in us the hope of glory. We are to be good trustees of our money and material possessions for the purpose of serving God. The Pride of Life The third thing in the world that we are to avoid is the pride of life. The word pride means empty, braggart talk or an insolent and empty assurance, which trusts in its own power and resources and shamefully despises and violates divine laws and human rights. Satans heart was lifted up with pride when he turned to iniquity. We must not fall into Satans trap of pride and its philosophy of humanism. We must rely on God to meet our needs. Renewing Our Minds What are we to do to avoid loving the world and bearing its brand? Here is what the apostle Paul wrote about this subject in Romans 12:2: “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” (KJV) The word renewing means a complete renovation. This renewal must continue after our initial conversion. Paul was writing to converted members of the Church of God in Rome. We are transformed to be different from the world from the inside out through the power of Gods Holy Spirit. Merely having different customs from the world is not sufficient because we could fall into pride as did the Pharisees. We must change not only our actions, but also our motives. We prove what is good and right by being transformed from within and then living that way. To avoid being conformed to the world we must change by renewing our minds. We should renew our minds daily by feeding on the spiritual food of Gods word. We prove what the perfect will of God is not just by an intellectual exercise but by applying Gods law in our lives. Conclusion How are we to renew our minds? Here is what the apostle Paul wrote in II Corinthians 4:16-18: “16For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. 17For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; 18While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” (KJV) We must keep our eyes on Gods gift of eternal life and on our rewards in the Kingdom of God. We must forsake the lusts of the world and be filled with Gods Spirit. Our lifestyle and activities are to be very different from those of the average person in the world. Following the ways of the world can brand us with physical and emotional scars that can be very difficult, if not humanly impossible, to remove. If we confess our sins and repent, the shed blood of Jesus Christ can remove all of our sins so that we are not spiritually branded by them. We walk through this world as strangers and pilgrims just as Samuel Mavericks cattle roamed the pasture. As we walk through this world while seeking the Kingdom of God, we should strive not to be branded with the sins of this world. With God’s help, each us should strive to be a Christian maverick. Marketing Made Simple

By Mike Myatt One of the most entertaining things you can do in business is to attend a meeting where a group of senior executives begin to pontificate on the subject of marketing. I have more fun watching people attempt to distinguish between marketing, advertising, branding, mediums, channels, markets, verticals, sectors, business development, sales, communications, public relations, etc. It never ceases to amaze me at how something so simple can become so convoluted, and how people can so passionately take a completely ridiculous stance and want to defend that position to the death. In this blog post I will attempt to demystify the subject of marketing and give you some actionable items can be implemented immediately to generate improved results. Lets take a moment and have some fun with definitions. The following two definitions of marketing come from the American Marketing Association. The first was a definition was used from 1985 until 2004 when the revised edition was released by the AMA. Previous AMA Definition: Marketing is the process of planning and executing conception, pricing, promotion and distribution of goods, ideas and services to create exchanges that satisfy individual and organizational goals. Current AMA Definition: Marketing is an organizational function and a set of processes for creating, communicating and delivering value to customers and for managing customer relationships in ways that benefit the organization and its stakeholders. OKa quick analysis of the two aforementioned definitions shows that the mistake of obviating the customer from the original definition was corrected by the clear and emphasized inclusion of the customer in the revised definition (I guess I wont resign my AMA membership just yet). Let me be clear that Im not meaning to make fun of academic theory or best practices, but I have little use for generic, omnibus or overarching statements as they tend not to accomplish anything of value, but rather they just create confusion among the ranks. Lets take a look at a few more definitionsMost of you know how fond I am of Druckerisms and so in good conscience I must quote him to you yet againPeter Druckers definition of marketing is: Marketing and innovation are the two chief functions of business. You get paid for creating a customer, which is marketing. And you get paid for creating a new dimension of performance, which is innovation. Everything else is a cost center. Now were getting a bit closer, but this is still too ambiguous for my taste From my perspective the problem with marketing as a discipline is that the desired result often gets lost in the vast expanse of its multi-disciplinary nature. The reality is that marketing is really the aggregation of any activity that touches the customer and that is just too much for most organizations to get their arms around, let alone to manage and execute on. So, at the end of the day I believe marketing is any activity that catalyzes a selling opportunity (my definition). Put simply I want marketing activities to make my phone ring! I dont care what the medium, market or message is, if it doesnt put a qualified prospect into a selling situation it is a waste of time, money and effort. Before the Myatt bashers come out of the shadows, Im not diminishing the value of brand equity, market share, mind share, etc., but Im simply trying to take a complex subject and make it real and actionable. If youre conducting brand campaigns or mind share initiatives thats fine, but realize that in most circumstances while these may classically be defined as marketing activities these efforts dont catalyze sales opportunities in the short run. The litmus test of any good gorilla marketing effort is measuring return on cost of sales. A great marketing campaign generates a high velocity of selling opportunities at the lowest possible cost over the shortest possible selling cycle. If you juxtapose this with the typical branding initiative youll see that these two efforts are truly diametrically opposed. So the goal of marketing is to not get caught up in theoretical debates and academic exercises, but to realize that the main thing, is to keep the main thing the main thing. If you cant put every marketing initiative under the magnifying glass and tie it to an acceptable return based on the generation of sales then you might want to reconsider what youre doing. By Lance Winslow If you own a mobile car washing or auto detailing company you know that some of your best clients will be corporate clients and you also know that when you are in the parking lot cleaning, washing or detailing cars that other employees will hire you. In fact often you will literally stuck in the parking lot all day cleaning and detailing cars. Obviously you could have worse problems. Since the gasoline prices are so high it behooves you to stay in one place all day and make money rather than driving around burning up fuel and costs, which are unnecessary you see? But how do you get Corporate Clients like this? Well simple really schedule a meeting with the human resource director and tell them you will come one time per week to the corner of their parking lot to wash cars for interested employees. They will see this as an incentive and value added service for their employees. Tell the human resource director that you will block off the storm drains and not pollute run off wash water and explain how you do this. Also tell them you will have a collection box upfront in the company where employees can put their money in pre-printed envelopes with their keys so you will not disturb the companys productivity. As long as you always show up on time, do good work and are honest in your dealings you will have these accounts for years. Consider this in 2006. “Lance Winslow” - Online Think Tank forum board.
