Marketing is More Than Advertising

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

By Greg Roworth Marketing is a business process about which much is written, however is often not completely understood. Many think that marketing and advertising are interchange-able words. This is not the case. Marketing is really a complete, integrated approach to doing business. Many businesses operate on the basis of a product driven approach. That is, the business has an ability to produce or provide a particular product and tries to find a market for that product. The enterprise is driven from the orientation of the business and its product. A marketing approach however is based on customer needs. In a marketing approach, the business identifies a particular need that exists in the marketplace and endeavours to find a product or service that meets that need. Let me use a simple illustration. The local hamburger store sells hamburgers. But what do McDonalds sell? The sale of hamburgers is only a part of the McDonalds experience for the customer. The McDonalds system provides the customer with much more than the hamburger. It provides a hamburger that the customer knows will be of the same quality time after time. The customer will experience prompt and friendly service, time after time. If you look at what McDonalds have done, you see that they have discovered many needs apart from the basic need of the customer to get a hamburger. There are many local shops that sell hamburgers, mostly run by very hard working owners, but their product driven approach limits their success. McDonalds market driven approach has enabled them to become the most successful small business in the world. Now, you may not want your business to become another McDonalds, but there is much that can be learned by examining their approach. Adopting a marketing oriented outlook means that you look at the needs of your customers, beyond the physical need that your product or service meets. What are the other needs that your customers are looking to satisfy in their dealings with your business? What are they looking for in terms of the way they are treated in the purchasing process? Are your salespeople helpful and courteous? How is your telephone answered? What can customers expect about the quality of your products, delivery, installation, after sales service, warranties, etc? The marketing approach sees every aspect of your business as being a tool to create more or higher value sales. The marketing approach enables you to differentiate your business from your competitors, not by selling a different product, but by providing customers with a different experience when they deal with your business. When you find the answers to the questions we have just asked and find ways to consistently provide quality in product and service aspects your business will attract more customers who are willing to pay more to have their needs met. A recent PIMS survey (Profit Impact of Marketing Strategy) found that businesses who were perceived by their customers to provide better service could charge an average of 9- 10% more for the same basic product or service. It was also found that they grew twice as fast as competition and gained market share at an average of 6% per year while competitors lost ground. The situation is clear. Becoming a marketing organisation, focussing on finding solutions to customer needs, is todays approach to achieving better results. Prescription Weight Loss Pills

Monday, January 28th, 2008

By Kevin Stith Weight loss pills come in three varieties - prescription, over-the-counter, and natural herbal supplements. From the three, the prescription weight loss pills are the most difficult because the only way to purchase these is to present a medical doctor’s prescription. The Center for Drug Evaluation and Research at the Food and Drug Administration continues to test and monitor these products since there are lots of pills that are introduced in the market which have harmful side effects to consumers. Prescription weight loss pills can be purchased at a drugstore, pharmacy, and health food or vitamin store. Before these pills are introduced to the market, extensive testing occurs first which actually takes years of research. Because of this, they are often the most effective products that you can purchase if you want to lose weight without having to go to the gym and do rigid workout. How prescription weight loss pills work? Prescription weight loss pills work by using one of two primary strategies. These work either to suppress your appetite or to block your body’s ability to absorb fat. Often, those who eat more than the given meals in a day are overweight. That is why when you take these pills, your brain will be stimulated into thinking that your stomach is still full, thus you will not be tempted to eat. However, these pills do not necessarily mean that you have to skip meals. You still have to eat your usual meals everyday because skipping meals will not be good for your health. Aside from suppressing the appetite, prescription pills also block the ability of the body to absorb fat by reducing your body’s lipase enzyme. With the lesser amount of this enzyme in your body, the lesser the fat it can also absorb. Therefore, you will also lose weight easily since there is lesser fat the body needs to burn. Whether you want appetite suppressants or pills that block the body from absorbing fat, prescription weight loss pills may be the effective products for you. Kids Furniture Ideas

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

By Adriana Copaceanu When investing in furniture for your kids, there are a few things to keep inmind: durability, adaptability and fun. Kids’ interests change quickly andthey grow just about as fast, so it’s important to shop smart. Most kidsonly need a bed, dresser and a desk with a chair. When shopping for kids’ furniture, durability is very important. Kids playrough, and it’s best to buy sturdy furniture, even if you have girls. Youwant something that’s going to last. Even if your children don’t share aroom, a bunk bed is nice, because it gives them a place for friends whenthey spend the night. It can also make a great place to store things. Bunkbeds are usually built better, as they are meant to hold up to years ofclimbing in and out of them. Adaptability is also a good thing to keep in mind when buying furniture. Will it grow with your child? There are many convertible cribs that can bemade into toddler beds, day beds and a twin bed, with a couple supportbraces and a mattress. This is something your child could use for years. Dressers are pretty basic, but to add fun to the room, buy a used dresser ata yard sale, strip it, and paint it solid color. Then you can get stencils, decals or stickers and let your child decorate it to fit their taste. Itcan be a fun project. When their taste changes, strip it again, and startover. It can even be stained when they are older, and prefer a moregrown-up style. Fun is important to kids. There are many imaginative furniture styles, suchas beds shaped like cars or other things. The problem with these is thatthe child outgrows them quickly. There are other ways to incorporate fun,by getting bright bedding and other accessories that are less expensive andeasily changed. Borrow an idea from college students that is also a space saver: build aloft. This gives more room for a play area and a desk, which can be builtinto one end of the bed. Shelves can also be added easily, using bracketsand boards, creating more storage space. Adriana Copaceanu is a busy mom of 2. Job Interviews: What Makes a Great Interview Candidate?

Friday, January 25th, 2008

By Andrew Reed While regarded by many as an imperfect way to choose a new employee, interviews are used by almost all organisations irrespective of size or sector. You may not like the process and indeed some fear interviews intensely however to get that crucial first job and to move up the career ladder you must become not only comfortable in the interview room but also learn how to become an excellent interviewee. Many candidates believe that having a great resume/CV is enough to see them through the interview and win the job offer. This is a common mistake that results in disappointment. The reality is that all candidates have a great resume/CV and in my experience it is often not the applicant with the best experience or skills who will win the job rather the one who performs best at the interview. So just what do you have to do to stand out of the crowd and impress on the interviewer that you are the right person for the job? This article looks at the key techniques that any job interview candidate can use, irrespective of the type or level of the position to succeed and win those great job offers. Be Prepared: A common mistake made by candidates is not being fully prepared and there really is no excuse. There is usually more than enough time from the date you receive your invite to the interview itself and proper preparation and practice will enhance greatly your ability to answer questions, to communicate and to present yourself in the best possible light. There is no one recommended way to prepare for an interview. Instead, there are key tools and techniques that can be used to improve one’s chances of interview success. Find out as much as possible about the type and format of the interview. Research the company to find out how commercially viable it is, what skills are they looking for and discover if the company is right for you. Focus on your strengths: Remember that the organisation knows that you CAN do the job and they want you to confirm this to them during the interview. Don’t let any negative experiences or a gap in your career for example negate all the great work you have done. Step into the Interviewers Shoes: What exactly is the interviewer looking for from you? Imagine yourself in the interviewers place and try to get a feel for what they need from you. Once you can do that effectively you will be able to build a relationship with them from the first moment of the interview. Listen: Focus on the questions being asked and if you are not sure of the meaning of the question, then ask. This is a two way conversation and the interviewer will respond favourable to being engaged like this however, don’t do this with every question as you may come across as lacking in confidence. Relevant Answers: Keep your answers relevant to the question and do not be tempted to ramble. You may have an interesting story to tell or a great strength but if it is not required in the job don’t mention it. Body Language: Smiling, maintaining eye contact, a relaxed focused posture, restrained gesticulation are all examples of good body language which will work for you in the interview. Ask Questions: You will be given an opportunity to ask questions usually at the end however you do not have to wait until then necessarily. As in any conversation there will be appropriate time when you can interject and ask relevant questions. Be aware that questions about salary, working hours, holidays etc should not be asked at this stage. 2006 Andrew Reed has over 16 years experience in recruiting and managing large teams most recently in the entertainment sector. Medical Records Checkup - How To Keep Your Personal Medical Files Under Control

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

By Barbara Hemphill Quick. In five seconds or less can you recall the exact date and time of your last doctors visit? Could you remember when your next prescription refill is due? If one of your children or your spouse was suddenly rushed to the hospital, could you quickly gather all the necessary health insurance papers and relevant medical records? If you answered no to any of the above questions, youre not alone. Of all the records we keep in our home filing cabinet, few are as important as our medical records. Not only do they inform our doctors of any special care we require, but they also help us stay up- to-date on our medical progress and help us plan for future medical needs. In the event of a medical emergency, the more organized you are before the crisis, the better your chances for coming through the event with the least number of complications. Perhaps the biggest challenge of storing personal medical records is the sheer amount of paperwork itself. After all, every doctors visit, every pharmacy prescription, and every insurance payment generates at least one to two sheets of paper. For example, one 30-minute doctors visit alone could easily result in five or more pieces of paperdiagnosis information, doctors bill, prescription and drug info sheet, health insurance authorization and insurance statement. With so many papers to keep track of, its no wonder many people give up and just toss it all into a to do pile. However, when it comes to medical information, there are four main categories of paperwork you need to retain: 1) prescription information, 2) general health information, 3) specific medical condition information for each family member, and 4) health insurance information. Look through all the medical records you currently have stored and divide the papers into these four categories. For prescription information, keep a record of the drug name and dosage amount for each prescription. Also keep note of refill dates and the number of refills remaining. File any drug info sheet your pharmacist gives you, as these may help you quickly identify any drug interactions or dangerous side effects. General health information may include articles youve read about lowering cholesterol, losing weight, or any other topic of interest to you. This information does not need to relate to any specific person or ailment. In contrast, specific medical condition information for each family member should include everything related to a particular disease or ailment someone has. Keep a separate file for each condition and each family member so nothing gets confused. When organizing your health insurance information, keep a record of every payment and authorization. Also make sure you have the most updated listing of what services are covered and which doctors participate in your health plan. Having accurate insurance information could save you both money and time in the long run. Filing System for Organizing Medical Claim Info: 1. Insurance Policy Guidelines for Primary Policy 2. Claims to be submitted to Primary Policy Holder 3. Claims submitted, but not paid by Primary Policy Holder 4. Insurance Policy Guidelines for Supplemental Policy 5. Claims to be submitted to Supplemental Policy Holder 6. Claims submitted to Supplemental Policy Holder, but not paid 7. Claims paid Your Paper Prescription In the past, there were only four things you could do with all this paper: toss it, stack it, file it the traditional way, or convert it to electronic form using a scanner. Now a fifth option is availablea software program that allows you to keep your information in paper form in your filing cabinet. The incredible search power of the computer enables you to find anything you want in five seconds or less. This software, Kiplingers Taming the Paper Tiger(www.thepapertiger.com) published by Monticello Enterprises of Sunnyvale, CA, and based on the book Taming the Paper Tiger, utilizes one simple principle: Clutter is Postponed Decisions. These days, too few people are deciding whether to keep something, where to keep it, how long to keep it, or how to find it. As a result, it sits and sits and sits, until it get buried beneath some new pile. But consider this. There are only three things you can do with any piece of paper: 1)File it for future reference; 2) Act on it; or 3) Toss it. The Paper Tiger calls it The FAT System. A major premise of the program is a series of questions called, The Art of Wastebasketry?. The most important question is, What is the worst possible thing that would happen if I didnt have this information? If you can live with the answer, toss it. Additionally, research shows that 80% of what we keep we never use, but frequently we arent willing to take that risk. At that point, whether you plan to take action on the item or simply put it away in case you need it in the future, a good filing system is the best alternative to stacks of paper that often turn into outdated and unused clutter. So before you make another doctors appointment, make sure your medical information is the most current and easy to retrieve. By creating an effective filing system today youll enable yourself to stay better informed about your health matters. Youll also be better prepared for doctors visits and any medical emergencies, should they occur. Most important, youll be able to approach each day with less stress, knowing you can find what you need exactly when you need it. Seven Easy Ways to Ignite the Spark in Your Relationship!

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

By M Brooke It doesnt matter how excited you are about your partner if you cant stay on the same wavelength and keep a connection over time. Finding the right person is really less than half of what it takes to stay connected with someone. In working with couples and families over the past 18 years it has become clear to me that being in love, or even just loving someone, isnt enough to keep the relationship going. To maintain that magical feeling of love and special-ness in a relationship we have to be willing to take 150% ownership of the quality of the connection in our relationships. There are certain things we have to be willing to do and to continue doing if it is our intention to stay in love and in connection with our chosen partner. The exciting thing is that it doesnt matter if your relationship is only 6 months old or if its 20 years old, these things will work to deepen your connection. And, you dont have to wait for the other person to do them, its not about what the other person does or doesnt do. Its about you deciding that you want to maintain that connection, and being willing to take that 150% ownership. So here we go: 1) Love is an action: Show your partner how you feel about them every day, at least once a day. Do this even if you are in different states or countries. Show your care dont just speak it. Saying I love you doesnt deepen a connection unless its accompanied by actions. Leave love notes under your partners pillow when you are going to be out of town. Make sure the tires in his car have enough air in them before he leaves town. Hug her every time she walks in the door. Think to get her favorite flower once in a while, for no reason. Fix the leak in the bathroom hes been complaining about. Wipe up the counter and pick up after yourself like she has been asking. 2) We are all kids at heart: Recognize that no matter how grown up your partner seems, they are really a little kid inside. (Oh yes, and so are you) We are all really just kids that have bodies that have aged. Inside all of us are the unmet needs of our childhood as well as the playful spontaneous joyful child that we once were. Throughout the time you spend with your partner, see if you can notice the kid inside them. Respond to that kid just as you would to a kid who has not yet grown older. 3) Bedtime sharing: If you live together, go to bed at the same time, together, every night. This is huge. That means turning off the TV, the night-light and the phone. This is your time together. Cuddle and talk, make love if the urge strikes but that is not the point. The point is to talk about your day, your worries, and your hopes. Discover that in spite of all the time you have spent together, you still dont know each other. If you dont live together, or are not together for whatever reason, talk on the phone after you climb into bed. 4) Dont let things slide: When your partner says or does something you dont agree with or that upsets you, tell them. Dont just let it slide. This doesnt mean making a mountain out of molehill, but be sure to give things that upset you the energy that they deserve. Pretending that something doesnt matter doesnt make it not matter. You may think its not important but over time these things add up and cause resentments and distance. You may not always have time to process the conflict at that moment, but at least let your partner know that you are having a problem and that you will need to discuss it later. When you go to bed together that night, discuss it, if you havent already. 5) You are not enemies: When you are in a conflict with your partner stop your arguing for a moment. Breathe deeply. Start thinking about what you love about this person, and what you are grateful for about them. Then remember that they are not your enemy. In the middle of a conflict it sure can feel that way. It can seem that they are attacking you and you are the victim. Instead of arguing your case back to them, listen to what they are saying and, more importantly, what they are feeling. Respond to what they are feeling. Own what you can about your part in whatever has upset them, this doesnt mean agreeing with them, only that you can see that you have done something that upset them. 6) Touch well, tough often: Touch your partner as often as possible, and get them to touch you as often as possible. Skin to skin contact increases a hormone called oxytocin, the hormone of love. Oxytocin increases trust and a sense of safety; it reduces stress and increases sexual arousal. Most men and many women are touch deprived. In many cultures parents are taught not to baby their children and they interpret this as not cuddling them. Touch increases our overall sense of well being. 7) Play together. Be playful in your interactions. Have a sense of humor in times of stress. Find something playful to do that you both enjoy and make it a priority to keep it in your schedule. Play is critical to our sense of connection to others, and to our joy in life. In our culture we tend to get so serious and think that if an activity is not goal directed it has no purpose or meaning. Yet play expands our ability to think, develops creativity and gives us a sense of joy. Playing together in both structured and unstructured ways develops trust and engenders caring. Staying connected requires time a commitment to the relationship. If you are willing to do all seven of these things, your relationship will flourish Even if you just do a few of them your relationship will fare better than many, certainly than those who first walk through the door of my counseling office. Debt Consolidation Can Be Essential To Your Credit Repair

Monday, January 21st, 2008

By Nikola Govorko Each on us has a particular financial position, and most of us have some kind of debt to return. It can mean both, the big home loan or a small credit card bills. It actually means that all of us depend on being approved for some kind of credit, without it our lives would be much harder and we would have to give up on lots of things we take for granted. The real key to our credit status lies in our credit reports which are maintained and updated by credit bureaus. In case that you fall in to a default, or maybe miss on some payments, the credit bureau will be notified of this and it will go on your credit report. If thing like that happens your credit rating will drop and youll have much harder time getting a loan of any kind. Even if you get it, the interest rates will be much higher then for good credit applicants. Successful credit repair includes lots of different steps, and is different for each of us. An excellent answer in terms of credit repair for most of us is debt consolidation. When you begin your credit repair one thing is essential to your success and that is speed. You have to move quickly. The first damage to your credit rating will be the first time you miss payments, but it will continue to worsen if you continue to do it. Huge number of people believes that ones credit is either good or bad and there is nothing you can do about it. Because of that most of them dont even attempt to repair their credit. However the truth is quite the opposite, no matter how bad your credit is you can begin to repair it by returning some of the debt you owe to your creditors. The more you return and faster, the better your situation is going to improve. The usual problem with credit repair lies in lack of money which you could return to your creditors, The problem again, is that you probably don’t have the money you need to pay off the debts, after all, lack of money is probably the reason for your financial troubles. Because of that debt consolidation can be essential in your credit repair efforts. Debt consolidation works by consolidating all of your debts in to just one loan. What this means is that if you have numerous debts with one company or many companies, you apply for just one loan which will cover all the others. By doing so youll have only one loan to payback and that one loan will have significantly lower interest rates then the previous ones. Debt consolidation is going to provide you with financial breathing room, when your debt becomes unmanageable. You should know that your debt will not be reduced in any way, but it will be stretched over a much longer time period and will result in drop of your monthly payments. What is also very important is that debt consolidation will place you in much better standing with creditors. Your financial situation will not be perfect right away but immediately the creditors will notice that you have returned all your debts, and will report that to the credit bureaus. With that your credit repair will truly begin. Debt consolidation can be one of the most important tools in your credit repair efforts. Reason for that is that it allows for a very fast change in your credit rank. You will replace bad relations with many creditors for good relations with just one. If you act fast it can allow you to control the damage done to your credit status before it gets beyond repair and maybe pushes you in to bankruptcy. Because of that a debt consolidation can be one of the most important tools for your credit repair. At Debt-Free-Family we are dedicated to help you get out of debt, repair your credit and enjoy a debt free life. Find out how to start easy Bad Credit Repair. Practical Romance For Your Wedding Reception

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

By Janice Wee You want the every detail of your wedding to be perfect. Including thewedding decor. The wedding tables set the mood. As the guest enter the reception hall, theysign the guest book at the reception table and collect the goodie bag. Along theway, tables hold snacks and drinks for the guest who are early. Later, theguests congratulate the bride and groom at the groom’s table. When it is time todine, guests are seated at their tables, deep in conversation, celebrating thatjoyous occasion.
